What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of treatment based on the principle that the health of an individual is dependent upon the body's systems working in unison. This means treatment is focused on balancing all structures of the body, the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues to enable optimal functioning of the body. It is a safe form of manual treatment which uses gentle techniques to restore the body's structure to a state of balance and harmony. As a result osteopathy is a perfect treatment from the very young to the elderly, including pregnant women, office professionals, manual workers and athletes.

Treatment
The treatment you are given is totally individual to you. No two treatments are ever really the same as your posture and symptoms may have changed since the last visit and so it is important to constantly reassess and treat accordingly.

Conditions we treat
It is a common misconception to think that Osteopathy is just a treatment for back pain. Below is a brief list of the most common conditions that we treat:

Regulation of Osteopathy
In the UK, Osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GosC). It is against the law for anyone to call themselves an Osteopath unless they are registered with the GosC. Before visiting an Osteopath, you should ensure that they are fully registered and insured with the correct governing bodies. All Osteopaths at the Blackberry Clinic adhere to these professional guidelines.
